Supporting local cleanups

From neighborhood clean-up days to storm and flood recovery, we provide roll-off dumpsters to help residents and volunteer groups clear debris quickly and safely across Battle Creek, Springfield, Marshall, Albion, Bellevue, Augusta, Galesburg, Climax, Union City, Tekonsha, Athens, Homer, Vicksburg, Richland, Kalamazoo and Portage. When a local group organizes a cleanup, the hard part is always the pile at the end — and a roll-off is often exactly what it needs. Tell us what you are clearing and we help you pick the size.

One honest tip: sort before you load. Household paint, chemicals and other hazardous waste go to a household hazardous waste collection — Calhoun County holds a collection day for county residents, and the Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center at 1301 Lamont Ave serves residents of Kalamazoo County and participating communities. Recycling goes further at a public drop-off such as the Marshall Recycling Center listed by Calhoun County. Green waste is worth keeping in its own load, since Michigan keeps more than a de minimis amount of yard waste out of landfills (MCL 324.11514(1)(d)). Keep tires, batteries, propane tanks and anything hazardous out of a cleanup container altogether.

Planning a community cleanup or event and need a hand with waste hauling? Call (269) 292-6313 or email info@nextdaydumpsterco.com and let us know how we can help. A cleanup container follows the same rules as any other. On a Battle Creek street, the code bars placing any object in the street - which runs from property line to property line and takes in the lawn extension and the sidewalk - except temporary obstructions while things are moved to and from the property (§§ 1020.01, 1020.02(a)). The City's fee schedule lists right-of-way permits for lane and road closures and obstructions, and we found no City rule that names dumpsters. So the driveway comes first, and for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. In Marshall, any dumpster of 20 yards or more needs a City dumpster permit; in Kalamazoo a dumpster at the street needs a right-of-way permit; and in Union City nothing may stay on a street for more than 24 hours without Council approval (§ 91.01). We tell you what applies before the day.

We also work alongside the homeowners, landlords, contractors and small businesses that keep Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties moving, and help keep neighborhoods clean during renovations, cleanups and seasonal projects.

Responsible disposal

Keeping our communities clean also means disposing of waste the right way. We sort and divert recyclable and reusable materials whenever possible, and we work with licensed local facilities so your junk stays out of the wrong places — Michigan law says solid waste may go only to a licensed disposal area (MCL 324.11512(2)). Hazardous materials go to a household hazardous waste collection, never the container, and on the road, Michigan law requires every vehicle to be built or loaded so its contents cannot drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that is not completely enclosed has to be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720).
