The 10 yard container in Battle Creek
The 10 yard is the one we send when the job is one room, one garage or one weekend. At about 14 feet long and 7.5 feet wide it is the smallest container we run, compact and easier to place, so it suits driveways, tight spaces and smaller lots — an older street in Battle Creek, a narrow drive in Marshall or Albion, a small village lot in Augusta or Climax. It holds about 10 cubic yards, roughly three pickup truck loads or 50 to 70 standard 33-gallon trash bags.
Where the 10 yard earns its keep is weight. Concrete, tile, asphalt, brick and rock reach the limit long before a bigger box looks full, so heavy material goes in the smaller containers, and the 10 is best for dense, heavy debris rather than bulky items. The weight allowance on a 10 is commonly 1 to 2 tons, depending on the debris. Tell us what is going in and we help you estimate the weight, so you are not surprised by an overage and do not pay for space you will not use.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck to back in, and at least 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches
Small remodels, cleanouts and the heavy stuff
A small kitchen or bathroom remodel — tile, tub, vanity, a bit of drywall — sits comfortably in a 10 yard. So does a single-room or garage cleanout, a load of concrete, tile, asphalt or rock, or a smaller roof tear-off with the weight checked first. Household junk, furniture, drywall, flooring, wood, yard waste and tree trimmings go in too, and on a driveway it is easy to back in and easy to load over the 3.5-foot sides.
It fills the gap the public options leave. Battle Creek's curbside bulk pickup does not take construction and demolition materials, tires or roof shingles; Marshall's bulk pickup day caps each load at 3 cubic yards and refuses building demolition material, drywall, concrete, plaster and shingles; and Kalamazoo's bulk pickup will not take rocks, concrete or construction and renovation materials. Anything more than a trunk-load of remodel debris is what a 10 yard on the driveway is for.
The weight line on a 10 yard
The allowance on a 10 yard is commonly 1 to 2 tons, depending on the debris, and your quote states it. Household junk rarely gets close. A 10 filled with concrete, dirt or shingles can, so spread the load evenly, keep everything below the top rim — an overfilled container may not be legal or safe to haul — and tell us it is coming. If a load goes over the allowance, the container may be weighed and an overage fee applies; we explain that before delivery. The flat rate can include delivery and pickup, disposal and a standard rental period of 3 to 7 days, with no hidden fuel surcharges or surprise fees. On the road, Michigan law requires every vehicle to be built or loaded so its contents cannot drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that is not completely enclosed has to be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720).
Suitability
Is the 10 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 10 yard for
- Small kitchen or bathroom remodels
- Single-room and garage cleanouts
- Concrete, tile, asphalt, brick and rock, within the weight limit
- Smaller roof tear-offs, with the weight checked first
- Tight driveways and smaller lots
Pick a different size for
- A whole-home cleanout — that is a 20
- Big, bulky loads of furniture (you run out of room first)
- Paint, fuel, oil, hazardous liquids, tires, batteries or asbestos
- Pressurized tanks, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant
Placing a 10 yard container in Battle Creek
It needs a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck to back in, and at least 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches. The driveway comes first. On a Battle Creek street, the code bars placing any object in the street - which runs from property line to property line and takes in the lawn extension and the sidewalk - except temporary obstructions while things are moved to and from the property (§§ 1020.01, 1020.02(a)). The City's fee schedule lists right-of-way permits for lane and road closures and obstructions, and we found no City rule that names dumpsters. So the driveway comes first, and for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. Elsewhere the street rule is written down too: Kalamazoo needs a right-of-way permit "for things like placing a dumpster at the street", applied for at least 10 business days ahead; Portage bars putting "building and construction materials/equipment" on a street "unless written approval therefore is granted by the director of community development", with a bond or insurance filed first (§ 66-3(a)); Marshall wants a separate right-of-way permit for a dumpster in the City's right-of-way, whatever its size; Galesburg (§ 66-63) and Richland (§ 28-40) want a permit before materials occupy a street; Union City allows nothing on a street for more than 24 hours without Council approval (§ 91.01); and Bellevue wants trash containers kept covered and at least five feet back from the road (§ 109-9). MDOT requires a permit from anyone who wants to use state highway right-of-way for anything other than normal vehicle or pedestrian travel (it manages that right-of-way under Public Act 200 of 1969 and the Encroachment Act), so we keep containers out of the right-of-way of I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 or the I-94 Business Loop. In Marshall, any dumpster of 20 yards or more needs a City dumpster permit. Check any neighborhood association rules too. Protective boards can go under the rails on request. Each city page covers its own rules.

10 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Not covered here? Call (269) 292-6313 and ask.
How much space does a 10 yard dumpster need?
The container is about 14 feet long and 7.5 feet wide. Pick a flat, solid spot such as a driveway or pad, leave about 60 feet of clear approach for the truck, and check there are at least 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches. Move cars, bins, trailers and equipment out of the way, and mark the spot with cones or tape if you will not be home. In Battle Creek a street spot is a different question, and we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking.
Can I put concrete in a 10 yard dumpster?
Yes, and the 10 is the right box for it. Heavy materials have weight limits for safe transport, so concrete, brick and dirt go in the smaller containers. Spread it evenly, keep it below the top rim, and tell us roughly how much there is — heavy material mixed with household junk may need separate pricing, so check with us first.
How long do I get it for?
A standard rental period of 3 to 7 days, confirmed on your quote. Need more time? Call and we can often extend it for a daily or weekly fee that we explain on the phone. If it fills before the job is done, we can swap it. Finished early? Call and we arrange an early pickup.
How much does a 10 yard dumpster cost?
We do not publish a price list. You get a flat-rate quote on the phone, depending on the size, the debris, the location and the rental length, and it can include delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period, with no hidden fees. Call (269) 292-6313 with the address and what is going in.
