Yard Waste Dumpster Rental across Southwest Michigan
Outdoor projects make debris in bursts. Wind, ice and storms bring down branches and limbs; a landscape remodel pulls out shrubs, mulch and old plant beds all at once; tree trimming or removal leaves branches, logs, brush and stumps; spring and fall cleanups fill bag after bag. A yard waste container on the driveway takes all of it: no bags and no repeated hauling trips — load once and you are done.
Two things shape the job. Keep the load green: tree branches and limbs, leaves and grass clippings, bushes, shrubs and hedge trimmings, soil, sod and mulch, weeds, roots and plants, and small stumps all go in; treated or pressure-treated lumber, plastic planters, fertilizers, chemicals and household trash mixed with yard waste do not. And yard waste is light until it is not: soil, sod and wet leaves are heavy, so we size for the mix. For many homes a 15 or 20 yard is right for a seasonal cleanup.

Storm cleanup, tree work and landscape remodels
Storm cleanup is the big one. Severe Michigan weather — wind, ice and storms — can leave fallen limbs, branches and damaged landscaping across a yard in an afternoon, and a 20 yard on the driveway takes tree removal and storm cleanup in one go. The towns' own brush programs are not built for it: Marshall says its brush program "is not meant to circumvent the free-enterprise system of commercial tree and brush removal" (§ 50.12(D)), and Athens says its yard waste pickup "is not intended to replace the private contractor of tree and brush removal".
Landscape and tree jobs are the planned version: landscape remodeling, tree trimming and removal, spring and fall leaf removal, and property maintenance for rental turnovers or pre-sale curb appeal. Full property clearing and commercial landscaping use a 30, and landscapers and property managers can set up scheduled service for recurring green waste. Cut long limbs and logs to fit so they load flat and stay below the top rim.
Soil, sod and the weight line
Branches, brush and hedge trimmings are light. Soil, sod and wet leaves are not. A 20 of brush is nowhere near its weight allowance; a 20 heaped with soil can be well over it. Tell us the mix and we will size it — usually a 15 or 20 for the green waste and, if there is a lot of soil, a smaller box alongside. Keep the load clean: green material without trash or treated wood mixed in can be directed to recycling, composting or approved processing, and that only works when nothing else is in it.

Yard waste — the local specifics
Michigan defines yard waste as "leaves, grass clippings, vegetable or other garden debris, shrubbery, or brush or tree trimmings, less than 4 feet in length and 2 inches in diameter, that can be converted to compost", and stumps are not yard waste (MCL 324.11506(17)). More than a de minimis amount of it may not go to a landfill (MCL 324.11514(1)(d)); Battle Creek's own garbage page notes that Michigan has banned yard waste from landfills since 1995. Battle Creek collects bagged yard waste weekly from April through December, branches bundled at 4 feet or shorter, and the Brice Pit compost site takes leaves, grass, brush and limbs from City residents only — no stumps, no construction materials and no contractor dumping. Marshall's Compost Center on Homer Road does not take construction materials, stumps or concrete, and the Bellevue compost site and the Tekonsha brush dump are for village residents. A container is for the pile that is bigger, heavier or sooner than any of that. The home cleanout guide covers planning a big clear-out, and the what can and cannot go in guide explains what has to stay out of a green load.

Yard Waste Dumpster Rental — your questions answered
Not covered here? Call (269) 292-6313 and ask.
Do I need to bag the brush?
No — no bags and no repeated trips. Load it as it comes, cut long limbs and logs to fit, keep everything below the top rim, and keep household trash, treated wood and plastic out of it.
Can I put dirt in a yard waste dumpster?
Yes — soil, sod and mulch are accepted. Soil is heavy, so it goes in a smaller box or its own load within the weight limit. Tell us it is part of the job when you book and we plan the loads.
Can I put a whole tree in?
Cut to fit, yes — branches, limbs, logs and small stumps are fine. Big pieces are heavy, so tell us about them and we help you stay within the weight limit.
How fast after a storm can you deliver?
Same-day or next-day is often available, depending on availability — call early in the day for the best chance. If the week after a storm is busy, we tell you honestly when to expect the container.
Can I just burn it instead?
Not leaves in Battle Creek: the City says burning leaves is prohibited. Other towns have their own rules, so check with yours before you light anything.
