Approx. 18 road miles west-northwest of the yard, around 26 minutes.
Richland is approx. 18 road miles west-northwest of the yard, around 26 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early in the day for the best chance of same-day. Richland is a village of 946 at the 2020 Census, in Kalamazoo County.
Richland's Solid Waste chapter is reserved — it has no sections — and we found no hauler licence, registration or trash franchise in the Village code. Its street rules are clear, though: before a street or right-of-way is excavated or obstructed, a permit comes from the Village, which may also ask for insurance naming the Village and a bond (§ 28-33), and occupying a street with materials or machinery takes a permit from the superintendent of public works, a cash deposit and liability insurance (§ 28-40(a)).

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Richland
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Solid waste chapter reserved — Chapter 24 has no sections, and we found no hauler licence or trash franchise in the code.
- Street permit — excavating or obstructing a street or right-of-way takes a Village permit first (§ 28-33(a)).
- Materials in the street — occupying a street with materials or machinery needs the superintendent of public works' permit, a cash deposit and insurance (§ 28-40(a)).
- Six feet of sidewalk — at least six feet of sidewalk stays clear for people on foot (§ 28-40(b)).
- No overnight street parking — no vehicle stands on village streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. (§ 30-31(a)).
- Leaf pickup — the Village DPW's 2026 leaf pickup starts the week of 9 November.
What comes out of Richland properties
Richland's Village website posts the DPW's leaf pickup but nothing on household trash or bulk debris, and its Solid Waste chapter is empty. A remodel, a roof or a property clean-out is container work. Small clean-outs, garage projects and general household debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and demolition, construction and large-scale projects a 40 (about 12). Concrete and dirt usually go in a 10 or a 15 only — heavy materials have weight limits for safe transport, and tile, plaster, shingles and wet yard waste get heavy quickly. Michigan's solid waste law counts “demolished building materials” as rubbish (MCL 324.11505(9)), and household waste doesn't include construction and demolition waste (MCL 324.11504(3)) — remodel debris is container work, not cart work. The standard rental is 3 to 7 days. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it, and we'll explain any added daily or weekly fee up front. Finish early? Call and we'll arrange an early pickup.
What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring, furniture and household junk, yard waste, branches and brush, roofing shingles and small non-hazardous appliances, with concrete and dirt usually in a 10- or 15-yard container. What doesn't go in: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, tires, batteries, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, and fridges, AC units and other appliances with refrigerants — that's our own list. Michigan's landfill ban list backs much of it up: used oil, lead-acid batteries, bulk liquid waste and asbestos waste (unless the landfill meets the federal asbestos rule) may not go to a landfill, and neither may more than a de minimis amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste (MCL 324.11514). So load yard waste on its own: a yard-waste container takes no household trash mixed in. If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Michigan guide covers the rest. Household hazardous leftovers go to the Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center, 1301 Lamont Ave in Kalamazoo, which serves County residents and participating communities, with eligible small businesses by appointment — call 269-373-5211 for hours and what it takes.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Richland
Who may haul: Richland's Chapter 24, Solid Waste, is reserved, with no sections, and we found no hauler licence, registration or exclusive-hauler rule in the Village code (we didn't read its business chapter). The Village website doesn't say who collects household trash, so we don't either. The Village office is at 8985 Gull Road, 269-629-9903. We're licensed & insured.
In the street: before a street or right-of-way is excavated or obstructed, a permit comes from the Village; the fee covers processing, and the Village may ask for proof of insurance naming it as additional insured and a construction bond (§ 28-33). Occupying a street with materials or machinery takes a permit from the superintendent of public works, plus a cash deposit and liability insurance, and at least six feet of sidewalk stays clean and clear for pedestrians (§ 28-40). The code text comes from the Village's online code host as a summary, so it's paraphrased here. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as we know where the container goes and the spot is clear of vehicles and obstacles — mark it with cones or tape if you won't be there. Leave about 60 feet of clear approach for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance, free of wires and branches, on flat, solid ground such as a driveway or pavement. Ask about boards for driveway protection.
Parking: no vehicle may be parked or left standing on village streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. (§ 30-31(a)); we found no truck-route or commercial-vehicle parking rule in the traffic chapter.
Across the county line: EGLE's hauler guidance says waste taken out of the Michigan county where it was generated, into another county for handling, must be allowed under both counties' solid waste management plans.
State and local licences: EGLE says Michigan's solid waste rules don't require a licence, permit or registration from EGLE to haul solid waste, but some areas require a local licence or have their own operating rules — which is why the local rules on this page matter.
State highways: Michigan requires an MDOT permit for any use of state highway right-of-way other than normal travel, and cities and villages can require their own permits on their streets (MCL 247.322). We keep containers off state trunkline right-of-way — I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 and BL I-94 among them — and place them on private property beside those roads.
Covered loads: Michigan law bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so its contents can't drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that isn't completely enclosed must be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720). Keep debris below the top rim — an overfilled container may not be legal or safe to haul.
Remodel or tear-down: EGLE's Air Quality Division runs the federal asbestos NESHAP program in Michigan. Its fact sheet says residential dwellings of four units or less under private control or ownership aren't subject to the NESHAP, but regulated demolition — even of a facility with no asbestos — needs notice at least ten working days before work starts, filed through EGLE's MiEnviro portal. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Richland
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — the rules follow the town the property is in — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
We recommend the most cost-effective size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that can cover delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town restricts who may haul or wants a permit, we check its rules before booking.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep everything below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and oils, fuel, liquids and hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal
Call or message us when it is full or the job is done and we arrange prompt pickup. We work with local disposal and recycling facilities whenever possible, and materials such as metal, concrete and certain yard waste may be separated for recycling.

Dumpster rental in Richland — common questions
Not covered here? Call (269) 292-6313 and ask.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Richland?
On the street, yes: Richland needs a Village permit before anyone obstructs a street or right-of-way (§ 28-33), and occupying a street with materials takes the superintendent's permit, a deposit and insurance (§ 28-40). On your driveway or lot, we found no permit rule.
Is there a hauler licence in Richland?
We found none. Richland's Solid Waste chapter is reserved, with no sections, and we found no hauler licence or trash franchise in the Village code.
How much does a dumpster cost in Richland?
Every job gets a flat-rate quote on the phone, depending on the size, the debris, the location and the rental length. Delivery, pickup and disposal can all be in the quote, with no hidden fees. Call (269) 292-6313 for a quote.
