The 30 yard container in Battle Creek
The 30 yard takes up the same 22 by 7.5 feet of ground as the 20 — the extra volume is all height. That makes it the natural pick when a job makes a lot of bulky or mixed debris but the site has no more room: a multi-room or full-house renovation, an estate or rental property cleanout, a retail or office remodel, light demolition or a community cleanup. It holds about 30 cubic yards, roughly nine pickup truck loads or 170 to 190 standard 33-gallon bags, and it fits many two-car driveways and work sites.
The walls are about six feet high, so most of what goes in is carried or thrown rather than tipped from a wheelbarrow. Contractors and property managers with a crew do not mind, and it means fewer haul-offs on a busy site; a homeowner working alone may prefer a 20 and a swap.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck to back in, and about 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches
Big renovations, estates and commercial remodels
Taking several rooms back to the studs fills a 30 in a hurry: drywall, framing, cabinets, flooring and fixtures. Estate and move-out cleanouts land here too — furniture, mattresses and mixed junk — and so do retail and office remodels with shelving, partitions and displays, and community cleanups. Sort a few things first: fridges, freezers and A/C units that still hold refrigerant, paint, fuel, batteries and tires stay out. Tell us what is in the building and we talk through where those go.
Bigger buildings bring state paperwork. EGLE runs the federal asbestos rule (NESHAP) in Michigan. "Residential dwellings containing four units or less under private control or ownership would not be subject to the NESHAP", but other regulated demolitions need notice through EGLE's MiEnviro Portal at least ten working days before work starts - even when no asbestos is present. Asbestos never goes in our roll-offs, whatever the building. In Marshall, a 30 also needs the City's dumpster permit, which applies to any dumpster of 20 yards or more, so we check the City's rules before booking.
Weight, swaps and long jobs
Commonly 4 to 5 tons is included, depending on the debris type. The 30 holds bulky and mixed debris well; tile, plaster, shingles, wet yard waste and concrete can reach the weight limit before the container looks full, so separate dense heavy materials when possible and ask us for the most cost-effective size. The flat rate can include delivery and pickup, disposal up to the included weight and a standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. Jobs that run longer go on extensions or swap-outs, and contractors can ask about recurring job-site service, scheduled rotations and custom billing.
Suitability
Is the 30 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 30 yard for
- Multi-room and full-house renovations
- Estate and rental property cleanouts
- Retail and office remodels
- Light demolition and tear-outs
- Community cleanups
Pick a different size for
- Mostly concrete, brick or dirt — a 10 or 15 manages the weight better
- Fridges and A/C units that still hold refrigerant
- Paint, fuel, solvents and other hazardous waste
- Asbestos and medical waste
Placing a 30 yard container in Battle Creek
It needs a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck to back in, and about 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches. The driveway comes first. On a Battle Creek street, the code bars placing any object in the street - which runs from property line to property line and takes in the lawn extension and the sidewalk - except temporary obstructions while things are moved to and from the property (§§ 1020.01, 1020.02(a)). The City's fee schedule lists right-of-way permits for lane and road closures and obstructions, and we found no City rule that names dumpsters. So the driveway comes first, and for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. Elsewhere the street rule is written down too: Kalamazoo needs a right-of-way permit "for things like placing a dumpster at the street", applied for at least 10 business days ahead; Portage bars putting "building and construction materials/equipment" on a street "unless written approval therefore is granted by the director of community development", with a bond or insurance filed first (§ 66-3(a)); Marshall wants a separate right-of-way permit for a dumpster in the City's right-of-way, whatever its size; Galesburg (§ 66-63) and Richland (§ 28-40) want a permit before materials occupy a street; Union City allows nothing on a street for more than 24 hours without Council approval (§ 91.01); and Bellevue wants trash containers kept covered and at least five feet back from the road (§ 109-9). MDOT requires a permit from anyone who wants to use state highway right-of-way for anything other than normal vehicle or pedestrian travel (it manages that right-of-way under Public Act 200 of 1969 and the Encroachment Act), so we keep containers out of the right-of-way of I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 or the I-94 Business Loop. In Marshall, any dumpster of 20 yards or more needs a City dumpster permit. Check any neighborhood association rules too. Protective boards can go under the rails on request. Each city page covers its own rules.

30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Not covered here? Call (269) 292-6313 and ask.
Is a 30 yard too big for a house?
For a regular cleanout, often yes — a whole-home cleanout usually fits a 20. For a full-house renovation or a large estate cleanout, no — that volume arrives faster than people expect. Tell us the job and we will say which.
Can I do swaps on a 30 yard?
Yes. When it is full we haul it away or rotate in another container, and contractors with ongoing work can set up scheduled rotations.
How much weight is included in a 30 yard?
Usually around 4 to 5 tons, depending on the debris type. A 30 full of tile, dirt or concrete can pass that well before it reaches the top rail, so we estimate heavy loads with you during the quote.
Do I need a permit for a 30 yard?
It depends on where it sits and which town you are in. In Marshall the City wants a dumpster permit for any dumpster of 20 yards or more. On a Battle Creek street, the code bars placing any object in the street - which runs from property line to property line and takes in the lawn extension and the sidewalk - except temporary obstructions while things are moved to and from the property (§§ 1020.01, 1020.02(a)). Each city page says what that town asks for.
