Albion is approx. 22 road miles east-southeast of the yard, around 27 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early in the day for the best chance of same-day. Albion is a city of 7,700 at the 2020 Census, in Calhoun County.
Albion's code is plain: “No person shall engage in the business of collection, transportation, disposal or recycling of refuse in the city without first obtaining a license as provided in this division” (§ 66-61), and refuse includes “solid construction and market wastes” (§ 66-26). Household trash goes to one City-selected hauler (§ 66-139(b)(1)), but the code keeps commercial licences open (§ 66-67(c)) and lets residents make special arrangements with a licensed hauler for construction waste (§ 66-138).

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Albion
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- City refuse-hauler licence — collecting, transporting, disposing of or recycling refuse in the city takes a City licence (§ 66-61), issued once Council approves it (§ 66-67(a)).
- Name on the truck — licensees' vehicles show the name, phone and vehicle number on both sides in letters at least four inches high (§ 66-66).
- One hauler for household trash — homes get refuse service from the City-selected hauler only (§ 66-139(b)(1)).
- Construction waste to a licensed hauler — it doesn't go out with household trash; residents arrange it with a licensed hauler (§ 66-138).
- Collection hours at homes — refuse is collected from residential premises only between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. (§ 66-137).
- Big trucks on streets — trucks over 25 feet park on a street only to load or unload, or with written authorization (§ 82-63).
What comes out of Albion properties
In Albion, “Bulky waste, commercial refuse, dirt and construction waste shall not be placed for the usual residential collection, but the resident may make special arrangements with a licensed hauler to remove all such waste” (§ 66-138). Construction waste comes off premises with dwellings within 30 days (§ 66-143), and building sites need enough containers, with loose refuse containerized at the end of each day (§ 66-104). Small clean-outs, garage projects and general household debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and demolition, construction and large-scale projects a 40 (about 12). Concrete and dirt usually go in a 10 or a 15 only — heavy materials have weight limits for safe transport, and tile, plaster, shingles and wet yard waste get heavy quickly. Michigan's solid waste law counts “demolished building materials” as rubbish (MCL 324.11505(9)), and household waste doesn't include construction and demolition waste (MCL 324.11504(3)) — remodel debris is container work, not cart work. The standard rental is 3 to 7 days. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it, and we'll explain any added daily or weekly fee up front. Finish early? Call and we'll arrange an early pickup.
What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring, furniture and household junk, yard waste, branches and brush, roofing shingles and small non-hazardous appliances, with concrete and dirt usually in a 10- or 15-yard container. What doesn't go in: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, tires, batteries, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, and fridges, AC units and other appliances with refrigerants — that's our own list. Michigan's landfill ban list backs much of it up: used oil, lead-acid batteries, bulk liquid waste and asbestos waste (unless the landfill meets the federal asbestos rule) may not go to a landfill, and neither may more than a de minimis amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste (MCL 324.11514). So load yard waste on its own: a yard-waste container takes no household trash mixed in. If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Michigan guide covers the rest. Household hazardous leftovers go to Calhoun County's yearly household hazardous waste collection — 2026's was on 14 September at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds in Marshall. It's for County residents only and takes no trash, tires, yard waste, construction or demolition waste, appliances or business waste; Calhoun County Recycling and Solid Waste is on 269-969-6395. Calhoun County's Clarence Township drop-off, 27052 R Dr. N. in Albion, takes single-stream recycling on the third weekend of each month.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Albion
Who may haul: “No person shall engage in the business of collection, transportation, disposal or recycling of refuse in the city without first obtaining a license as provided in this division. Every person who regularly picks up refuse for others shall obtain a license” (§ 66-61). Applications go in writing to the City Clerk, listing the vehicles and where they're parked overnight, with every vehicle through its annual state inspection (§ 66-62); the licence year runs April 1 to March 31 (§ 66-63), and the clerk issues it once Council approval is granted (§ 66-67(a)). While the City uses a single residential hauler, no more residential licences are issued (§ 66-67(b)), but “Nothing in this section shall be deemed to limit the number of licenses issued for commercial or industrial refuse or recycling collection” (§ 66-67(c)). Licensees' vehicles carry the name, phone and vehicle number “in plain and easily seen letters not less than four inches in height”, and each truck “must have the capacity to have its load covered” (§ 66-66). City Hall is at 112 W Cass St, (517) 629-5535. We're licensed & insured.
Construction sites: “All construction and demolition sites shall require adequate numbers of receptacles, bulk containers or detachable containers for loose debris … All loose refuse shall be containerized at the end of each day” (§ 66-104), and construction waste is removed from premises with dwellings within 30 days (§ 66-143).
In the street: the code bars construction on or damage to a street or sidewalk except as permitted, but doesn't prohibit “such temporary obstructions as may be incidental to the expeditious movement of articles and things to and from abutting premises” (§ 74-3(a)); street permits come from the director (§ 74-7), and the City can remove an obstruction at the abutting owner's cost (§ 74-5). We found no dumpster permit. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as we know where the container goes and the spot is clear of vehicles and obstacles — mark it with cones or tape if you won't be there. Leave about 60 feet of clear approach for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance, free of wires and branches, on flat, solid ground such as a driveway or pavement. Ask about boards for driveway protection.
Trucks: trucks or trailers over 25 feet long park on a street only to load or unload, or with written authorization from the director of public safety (§ 82-63); there's no street parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. (§ 82-64); and commercial vehicles over 5,500 lb empty aren't parked in residential zones (§ 82-68(e)(2)).
State and local licences: EGLE says Michigan's solid waste rules don't require a licence, permit or registration from EGLE to haul solid waste, but some areas require a local licence or have their own operating rules — which is why the local rules on this page matter.
State highways: Michigan requires an MDOT permit for any use of state highway right-of-way other than normal travel, and cities and villages can require their own permits on their streets (MCL 247.322). We keep containers off state trunkline right-of-way — I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 and BL I-94 among them — and place them on private property beside those roads.
Covered loads: Michigan law bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so its contents can't drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that isn't completely enclosed must be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720). Keep debris below the top rim — an overfilled container may not be legal or safe to haul.
Remodel or tear-down: EGLE's Air Quality Division runs the federal asbestos NESHAP program in Michigan. Its fact sheet says residential dwellings of four units or less under private control or ownership aren't subject to the NESHAP, but regulated demolition — even of a facility with no asbestos — needs notice at least ten working days before work starts, filed through EGLE's MiEnviro portal. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Albion
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — the rules follow the town the property is in — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
We recommend the most cost-effective size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that can cover delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town restricts who may haul or wants a permit, we check its rules before booking.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep everything below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and oils, fuel, liquids and hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal
Call or message us when it is full or the job is done and we arrange prompt pickup. We work with local disposal and recycling facilities whenever possible, and materials such as metal, concrete and certain yard waste may be separated for recycling.

Local answers
Dumpster rental in Albion — common questions
Not covered here? Call (269) 292-6313 and ask.
Do haulers need a licence in Albion?
Yes. Albion's code says no one may be in the business of collecting, transporting, disposing of or recycling refuse in the city without a City licence (§ 66-61), issued once Council approves it. Call (269) 292-6313 with the address and the job.
Can I hire someone other than the City's hauler for remodel debris?
Albion's code says construction waste doesn't go out for the usual residential collection, and the resident may make special arrangements with a licensed hauler to remove it (§ 66-138).
Can a dumpster go on an Albion street?
We found no Albion permit written for a dumpster in the street, so we place it on your driveway or lot. Long trucks park on a street only to load or unload (§ 82-63).
How far is Albion from your yard?
Approx. 22 road miles east-southeast, around 27 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early in the day for the best chance of same-day.
