Battle Creek is our home market. The yard sits on E Michigan Ave, the I-94 Business Loop, on Battle Creek's east side — in Emmett Charter Township, just outside the City limits, about 1.75 miles in a straight line from I-94 and just under 2 miles from the I-194/M-66 freeway. The middle of the City is approx. 5 road miles away, around 8 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early in the day for the best chance of same-day.

Battle Creek is a city of 52,721 at the 2020 Census, the largest in Calhoun County (134,310). Its exclusive trash contract covers residential refuse only (§ 1064.43), and the City's contractor doesn't have to collect commercial refuse or construction waste (§ 1064.21). Anyone in the business of collecting, transporting or disposing of other people's refuse in the City needs a City licence (§ 1064.44), and every construction or demolition site needs enough containers for its debris (§ 1064.17). Driveway first; for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking.

How we reach Battle Creek

At homes we plan drop-offs and pickups inside the City's 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. residential collection hours (§ 1064.55(k)), and trucks leave the posted truck routes at the point closest to your address (Rule 501).

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Battle Creek

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Just outside the City — the yard at 923 E Michigan Ave is in Emmett Charter Township (Brownlee Park), Calhoun County, on the I-94 Business Loop (US Census geocoder).
  • Hauler licence — collecting, transporting or disposing of refuse for others in the City takes a licence, issued through the City Clerk (§ 1064.44), and licensees' trucks carry their name, phone and vehicle number on both sides (§ 1064.48).
  • Residential contract only — the City's exclusive contractor handles residential refuse (§ 1064.43) and isn't required to collect commercial refuse or construction waste (§ 1064.21).
  • Containers on job sites — construction and demolition sites need enough receptacles or bulk containers, with loose refuse containerized at the end of each day (§ 1064.17).
  • Collection hours at homes — refuse is collected from residential premises only between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. (§ 1064.55(k)).
  • Truck routes — trucks of four tons or more keep to posted truck routes, leaving them at the point closest to the address (§ 410.04, Rule 501).

What comes out of Battle Creek properties

Battle Creek's curbside bulk pickup doesn't take construction and demolition materials, tires or roof shingles, and the City's contractor isn't required to collect construction waste (§ 1064.21) — so a remodel, a roof or a tear-down is container work. The code has the person responsible remove construction waste to an approved disposal area within a reasonable time after the work is done (§ 1064.08). Small clean-outs, garage projects and general household debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and demolition, construction and large-scale projects a 40 (about 12). Concrete and dirt usually go in a 10 or a 15 only — heavy materials have weight limits for safe transport, and tile, plaster, shingles and wet yard waste get heavy quickly. Michigan's solid waste law counts “demolished building materials” as rubbish (MCL 324.11505(9)), and household waste doesn't include construction and demolition waste (MCL 324.11504(3)) — remodel debris is container work, not cart work. The standard rental is 3 to 7 days. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it, and we'll explain any added daily or weekly fee up front. Finish early? Call and we'll arrange an early pickup.

What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring, furniture and household junk, yard waste, branches and brush, roofing shingles and small non-hazardous appliances, with concrete and dirt usually in a 10- or 15-yard container. What doesn't go in: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, tires, batteries, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, and fridges, AC units and other appliances with refrigerants — that's our own list. Michigan's landfill ban list backs much of it up: used oil, lead-acid batteries, bulk liquid waste and asbestos waste (unless the landfill meets the federal asbestos rule) may not go to a landfill, and neither may more than a de minimis amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste (MCL 324.11514). So load yard waste on its own: a yard-waste container takes no household trash mixed in. If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Michigan guide covers the rest. Household hazardous leftovers go to Calhoun County's yearly household hazardous waste collection — 2026's was on 14 September at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds in Marshall. It's for County residents only and takes no trash, tires, yard waste, construction or demolition waste, appliances or business waste; Calhoun County Recycling and Solid Waste is on 269-969-6395. City residents can take leaves, grass, brush and tree limbs to Brice Pit, the City's compost site at 715 West River Road — free for City residents only, with no commercial or contractor dumping and no construction materials or stumps. As the City puts it, “Michigan law has banned yard waste from landfills since 1995”, and burning leaves is prohibited.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Battle Creek

Who may haul: Battle Creek's code requires a licence for anyone in the business of collecting, transporting or disposing of refuse in the City, other than people disposing of their own (§ 1064.44). The City Clerk handles refuse hauler licences, which run from May 1 to April 30 (§ 1064.51). Commercial establishments contract with a City-licensed person for their refuse (§ 1064.09). The City's exclusive contract covers residential refuse only (§ 1064.43), and the section doesn't mention commercial, construction or roll-off waste. Licensees' vehicles carry the licensee's name, phone and vehicle number on both sides in letters at least four inches high (§ 1064.48). The code text comes from the City's online code host in short excerpts, so it's summarized here. We're licensed & insured.

Construction sites: every construction and demolition site needs enough receptacles, bulk containers or detachable containers for its loose debris and building waste, all loose refuse is containerized at the end of each day, and the site is kept reasonably clean and free of litter (§ 1064.17).

In the street: the code bars placing any article or obstruction in a street — and a street, in the code, takes in lawn extensions and sidewalks (§ 1020.01) — though it allows temporary obstructions incidental to moving things to and from the property beside it (§ 1020.02(a)). Street permits come from the Director of Public Works (§ 1020.03), obstructions are barricaded and lit at night (§ 1020.13), and the City's fee schedule lists a right-of-way permit line for “Lane/road closures, obstructions”. We found no permit written for dumpsters, so the container goes on your driveway or lot first; for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. You don't need to be home as long as we know where the container goes and the spot is clear of vehicles and obstacles — mark it with cones or tape if you won't be there. Leave about 60 feet of clear approach for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance, free of wires and branches, on flat, solid ground such as a driveway or pavement. Ask about boards for driveway protection.

Trucks: trucks of four tons or more operate, stand or park only on posted truck routes, except to leave the route at the point closest to the destination and come back the same way (§ 410.04, Rule 501), and commercial vehicles aren't parked on a street unless being loaded or unloaded (Rule 814b(2)). A licensed hauler's vehicle doesn't sit in a residential area longer than needed unless it's parked at least 500 feet from homes (§ 1064.55(f)).

Emmett Township: the yard's own township requires a solid waste disposal services licence from the township for anyone collecting, transporting, delivering or disposing of solid waste generated by someone else there (Emmett Charter Township Code § 42-51), and it counts waste from building construction and repair as solid waste (§ 42-32).

State and local licences: EGLE says Michigan's solid waste rules don't require a licence, permit or registration from EGLE to haul solid waste, but some areas require a local licence or have their own operating rules — which is why the local rules on this page matter.

State highways: Michigan requires an MDOT permit for any use of state highway right-of-way other than normal travel, and cities and villages can require their own permits on their streets (MCL 247.322). We keep containers off state trunkline right-of-way — I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 and BL I-94 among them — and place them on private property beside those roads.

Covered loads: Michigan law bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so its contents can't drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that isn't completely enclosed must be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720). Keep debris below the top rim — an overfilled container may not be legal or safe to haul.

Remodel or tear-down: EGLE's Air Quality Division runs the federal asbestos NESHAP program in Michigan. Its fact sheet says residential dwellings of four units or less under private control or ownership aren't subject to the NESHAP, but regulated demolition — even of a facility with no asbestos — needs notice at least ten working days before work starts, filed through EGLE's MiEnviro portal. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Battle Creek

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — the rules follow the town the property is in — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the most cost-effective size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that can cover delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town restricts who may haul or wants a permit, we check its rules before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep everything below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and oils, fuel, liquids and hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or message us when it is full or the job is done and we arrange prompt pickup. We work with local disposal and recycling facilities whenever possible, and materials such as metal, concrete and certain yard waste may be separated for recycling.

Dumpster rental in Battle Creek — common questions

Not covered here? Call (269) 292-6313 and ask.

Do you deliver dumpsters in Battle Creek?

Yes. Battle Creek is our home market, and our yard is on E Michigan Ave on the city's east side, just outside the City limits. Driveway first; for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. Call (269) 292-6313 with the address and the job.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Battle Creek?

We found no City permit written for dumpsters, and on your driveway or lot the container stays out of the street. The street, which in the code includes lawn extensions and sidewalks, is another matter: obstructions are barred except temporary ones incidental to moving things to and from the property (§ 1020.02(a)), and street permits come from Public Works (§ 1020.03), so we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking a street spot.

Will the City's trash service take my remodel debris?

No. The City's bulk pickup doesn't take construction and demolition materials, tires or roof shingles, and its contractor isn't required to collect construction waste (§ 1064.21). That's container work.

How fast can you deliver in Battle Creek?

Same-day or next-day when availability allows. The middle of the City is approx. 5 road miles from the yard, around 8 minutes. Call early in the day for the best chance of same-day; the phone is answered 24/7.

How much does a dumpster cost in Battle Creek?

Every job gets a flat-rate quote on the phone, depending on the size, the debris, the location and the rental length. Delivery, pickup and disposal can all be in the quote, with no hidden fees. Call (269) 292-6313 for a quote.
