The 15 yard container in Battle Creek
The 15 yard is the middle ground: more than a small container, less than a large one. Garage, attic or basement cleanouts, flooring and carpet removal, kitchen and bath remodels, multi-room cleanouts, small deck or fence removal, light roofing tear-offs, and yard waste and tree trimming — those are the classic fits. It holds about 15 cubic yards, roughly four to five pickup truck loads or 80 to 100 standard 33-gallon bags.
At about 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide it gives you more capacity without taking up much more space, and it fits many residential driveways in Battle Creek and the towns around it. The 4.5-foot sides keep the throw height short, which makes loading easier for homeowners doing weekend projects.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 16 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck to back in, and about 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches
Kitchens, floors, light roofs and yards
A kitchen makes more debris than people expect: by the time the cabinets, the countertops and the drywall are out, a 10 is tight and a 15 is right. Flooring jobs are the same — carpet, pad and laminate are bulky, and tile is heavy. Light and medium roofing fits too, but shingles are heavy: tell us the roofing squares or the flooring area and we estimate the weight over the phone. Break long deck boards, posts and fence panels down so they load flat and save space.
Yard work fits as well: branches, shrubs and leaves from a cleanup or a storm. Battle Creek collects yard waste weekly from April through December, but only in paper yard waste bags or containers of up to 32 gallons and 50 lb, with branches bundled at 4 feet or shorter and loose branches left behind, and the City says "Burning leaves is prohibited." Michigan law keeps more than a de minimis amount of yard waste out of landfills (MCL 324.11514(1)(d)), so keep a green load green. A 15 on the driveway is the practical way to clear a big yard job in one go.
Weight on a 15 yard
Most rentals include around 2 to 3 tons, depending on the debris. Flooring, tile, roofing and wet yard waste reach that quickly; cabinets, drywall, carpet and furniture rarely do. If more than half the load is dense — tile, plaster or concrete — call us first, because a 10 yard may save you money. Load evenly front to back and side to side, and keep everything below the top rail. The flat rate can include delivery and pickup, disposal up to the included weight and a standard rental period of 3 to 7 days, and extensions are available for a daily or weekly fee. No hidden fees.
Suitability
Is the 15 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 15 yard for
- Garage, attic and basement cleanouts
- Flooring and carpet removal
- Kitchen and bath remodels
- Small deck and fence removal
- Yard waste, tree trimming and storm debris
Pick a different size for
- Whole-home cleanouts — go to the 20
- Loads that are mostly tile, concrete or dirt (a 10 may be better)
- Liquids, paint, solvents, chemicals and fuels
- Tires, batteries, asbestos and other hazardous waste
Placing a 15 yard container in Battle Creek
It needs a flat, solid spot about 16 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck to back in, and about 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches. The driveway comes first. On a Battle Creek street, the code bars placing any object in the street - which runs from property line to property line and takes in the lawn extension and the sidewalk - except temporary obstructions while things are moved to and from the property (§§ 1020.01, 1020.02(a)). The City's fee schedule lists right-of-way permits for lane and road closures and obstructions, and we found no City rule that names dumpsters. So the driveway comes first, and for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. Elsewhere the street rule is written down too: Kalamazoo needs a right-of-way permit "for things like placing a dumpster at the street", applied for at least 10 business days ahead; Portage bars putting "building and construction materials/equipment" on a street "unless written approval therefore is granted by the director of community development", with a bond or insurance filed first (§ 66-3(a)); Marshall wants a separate right-of-way permit for a dumpster in the City's right-of-way, whatever its size; Galesburg (§ 66-63) and Richland (§ 28-40) want a permit before materials occupy a street; Union City allows nothing on a street for more than 24 hours without Council approval (§ 91.01); and Bellevue wants trash containers kept covered and at least five feet back from the road (§ 109-9). MDOT requires a permit from anyone who wants to use state highway right-of-way for anything other than normal vehicle or pedestrian travel (it manages that right-of-way under Public Act 200 of 1969 and the Encroachment Act), so we keep containers out of the right-of-way of I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 or the I-94 Business Loop. In Marshall, any dumpster of 20 yards or more needs a City dumpster permit. Check any neighborhood association rules too. Protective boards can go under the rails on request. Each city page covers its own rules.

15 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Not covered here? Call (269) 292-6313 and ask.
How big is a 15 yard dumpster?
About 16 feet long, 7.5 feet wide and 4.5 feet high. It holds about 15 cubic yards, roughly four to five pickup truck loads or 80 to 100 bags sized at 33 gallons.
Will it fit in my driveway?
It fits many residential driveways, and the driveway is where it should go. The truck needs about 60 feet of clear approach and about 25 feet of clearance overhead. The street is the fallback, not the plan: in Battle Creek we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking, Kalamazoo needs a right-of-way permit for a dumpster at the street, and Portage needs written approval from the director of community development plus a bond or insurance before materials go on a street (§ 66-3(a)).
Can I keep it longer than the standard period?
Yes. The standard rental period is 3 to 7 days, and we can often extend it for a daily or weekly fee — just call.
What is the weight limit?
Most rentals include around 2 to 3 tons, depending on the debris. Flooring, tile, roofing and wet yard waste can hit that allowance fast, so call for a quick estimate.
Can I mix materials?
Usually yes, but heavy materials like dirt or concrete may need separate pricing, so check with us first. Anything on our not-accepted list — liquids, paint, solvents, chemicals, fuel, tires, batteries, asbestos, hazardous waste — stays out.
