Roll-off dumpster rental in Union City
Approx. 21 road miles south of the yard, around 31 minutes.
Union City is approx. 21 road miles south of the yard, around 31 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked the Village's rules for the job. Union City is a village of 1,714 at the 2020 Census, mostly in Branch County with a small part in Calhoun County.
Union City's solid waste chapter (adopted in 2021) has the Village Council contract with one licensed contractor for residential refuse, and makes that contractor the only one allowed to provide residential refuse collection and disposal in the village (§ 52.05). Its commercial definition includes construction waste (§ 52.01), and the chapter doesn't mention roll-offs. Its street rule dates from 1899: nothing goes on a street, sidewalk or alley except for immediate building purposes in front of the premises, the Council may allow a temporary obstruction, and none may stay more than 24 hours (§ 91.01). So we check the Village's rules before booking.

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Union City
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Exclusive household trash — the Village's contractor is the only one allowed to provide residential refuse collection and disposal (§ 52.05), for homes of fewer than four units (§ 52.01).
- Construction waste is commercial — the code's commercial definition includes construction waste (§ 52.01).
- Opting out — a home may leave the residential contract only if it's vacant, or will be, for at least 90 days (§ 52.06).
- 24-hour street limit — street obstructions are allowed only for immediate building purposes or with Council approval, and never for more than 24 hours (§ 91.01).
- Long trucks — commercial vehicles 40 feet or longer park on a street or alley only while loading or unloading (§ 72.03).
- No hauler licence found — the Village's licensing chapter has no refuse-hauler or general business licence.
What comes out of Union City properties
Union City's brush program isn't meant to stand in for commercial tree work: the Village won't pick up material left from a tree or lot being commercially cleared, removed or pruned (§ 52.13(D)). And its code counts construction waste as commercial, not residential (§ 52.01). A tree job, a remodel or a clean-out is container work, once we've checked the Village's rules. Small clean-outs, garage projects and general household debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and demolition, construction and large-scale projects a 40 (about 12). Concrete and dirt usually go in a 10 or a 15 only — heavy materials have weight limits for safe transport, and tile, plaster, shingles and wet yard waste get heavy quickly. The standard rental is 3 to 7 days. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it, and we'll explain any added daily or weekly fee up front. Finish early? Call and we'll arrange an early pickup.
What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring, furniture and household junk, yard waste, branches and brush, roofing shingles and small non-hazardous appliances, with concrete and dirt usually in a 10- or 15-yard container. What doesn't go in: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, tires, batteries, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, and fridges, AC units and other appliances with refrigerants — that's our own list. Michigan's landfill ban list backs much of it up: used oil, lead-acid batteries, bulk liquid waste and asbestos waste (unless the landfill meets the federal asbestos rule) may not go to a landfill, and neither may more than a de minimis amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste (MCL 324.11514). So load yard waste on its own: a yard-waste container takes no household trash mixed in. If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Michigan guide covers the rest. Calhoun County's household hazardous waste collection is for Calhoun County residents only, which takes in just the small Calhoun County part of the village.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Union City
Who may haul — we check first: Union City's Chapter 52 (Ord. 52.00, passed 8 March 2021) has the Village Council enter into an exclusive contract with a licensed contractor for residential refuse, and says the contractor is the only one allowed to provide residential refuse collection and disposal services in the village (§ 52.05). Residential service means dwellings of fewer than four units, and commercial garbage service includes construction waste (§ 52.01); a home can opt out only if vacant for at least 90 days (§ 52.06). The chapter doesn't mention roll-offs, and we found no refuse-hauler or general business licence in the Village's licensing chapter. The code text comes from the Village's online code host in short excerpts, so it's summarized here. We check the Village's rules before booking a container in Union City — the Village Office is at 101 S Broadway St, 517-741-8591. We're licensed & insured.
In the street: Union City's 1899 obstruction rule bars placing boxes, lumber, brick, stone, yard rubbish or any other obstruction on a sidewalk, street, lane or alley, except for immediate building purposes in front of the premises; the Council may provide for the temporary obstruction of part of a street, and no obstruction may stay longer than 24 hours (§ 91.01). The code doesn't say whether a roll-off counts, so street placement needs the Village's approval. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as we know where the container goes and the spot is clear of vehicles and obstacles — mark it with cones or tape if you won't be there. Leave about 60 feet of clear approach for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance, free of wires and branches, on flat, solid ground such as a driveway or pavement. Ask about boards for driveway protection.
Trucks: commercial vehicles 40 feet or longer may not be parked on a public street or alley at any time, except while loading or unloading (§ 72.03). We found no truck route or weight limit.
State and local licences: EGLE says Michigan's solid waste rules don't require a licence, permit or registration from EGLE to haul solid waste, but some areas require a local licence or have their own operating rules — which is why the local rules on this page matter.
State highways: Michigan requires an MDOT permit for any use of state highway right-of-way other than normal travel, and cities and villages can require their own permits on their streets (MCL 247.322). We keep containers off state trunkline right-of-way — I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 and BL I-94 among them — and place them on private property beside those roads.
Covered loads: Michigan law bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so its contents can't drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that isn't completely enclosed must be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720). Keep debris below the top rim — an overfilled container may not be legal or safe to haul.
Remodel or tear-down: EGLE's Air Quality Division runs the federal asbestos NESHAP program in Michigan. Its fact sheet says residential dwellings of four units or less under private control or ownership aren't subject to the NESHAP, but regulated demolition — even of a facility with no asbestos — needs notice at least ten working days before work starts, filed through EGLE's MiEnviro portal. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Union City
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — the rules follow the town the property is in — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
We recommend the most cost-effective size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that can cover delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town restricts who may haul or wants a permit, we check its rules before booking.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep everything below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and oils, fuel, liquids and hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal
Call or message us when it is full or the job is done and we arrange prompt pickup. We work with local disposal and recycling facilities whenever possible, and materials such as metal, concrete and certain yard waste may be separated for recycling.
