Roll-off dumpster rental in Springfield

Approx. 5 road miles west of the yard, around 9 minutes.

Springfield is approx. 5 road miles west of the yard, around 9 minutes — about as close as the middle of Battle Creek. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early in the day for the best chance of same-day. Springfield is a city of 5,292 at the 2020 Census, in Calhoun County.

Springfield's code reads much like Battle Creek's. The City's contractor is “the only person allowed to provide residential refuse collection and disposal services within the city” (§ 36-136), and “No person shall engage in the business of collection, transportation or disposal of refuse in the city without first obtaining a license therefor” (§ 36-137), applied for at the City Clerk's office (§ 36-138). Commercial refuse includes construction waste (§ 36-15), and businesses contract with a City-licensed person for theirs (§ 36-33).

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Springfield

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • City hauler licence — the business of collecting, transporting or disposing of refuse in the city takes a City licence (§ 36-137), with the licence year running May 1 to April 30 (§ 36-141).
  • Residential contractor — the City's contractor is the only one allowed to provide residential refuse collection and disposal (§ 36-136).
  • Construction waste is commercial — the code's commercial refuse includes construction waste (§ 36-15), and businesses contract with a City-licensed hauler (§ 36-33).
  • Containers on job sites — construction and demolition sites need enough receptacles or bulk containers, with loose refuse containerized by the end of each day (§ 36-41).
  • 30-day clean-up — construction waste goes to approved disposal areas within 30 days after the work is finished (§ 36-32).
  • Posted heavy-truck streets — where signs are posted, dump trucks and similar heavy vehicles stay off, with the signs allowing local deliveries (§ 46-31), and no trailer is parked overnight on a street (§ 46-32).

What comes out of Springfield properties

Springfield's curbside service runs on carts — garbage, recycling, and yard waste from the first Monday in April to the last Monday in November — plus one bulk item a month on the fourth Monday, booked through the City. A remodel, a roof or a whole-house clean-out is container work, and the code has construction waste removed to approved disposal areas within 30 days after the job (§ 36-32). Small clean-outs, garage projects and general household debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and demolition, construction and large-scale projects a 40 (about 12). Concrete and dirt usually go in a 10 or a 15 only — heavy materials have weight limits for safe transport, and tile, plaster, shingles and wet yard waste get heavy quickly. Michigan's solid waste law counts “demolished building materials” as rubbish (MCL 324.11505(9)), and household waste doesn't include construction and demolition waste (MCL 324.11504(3)) — remodel debris is container work, not cart work. The standard rental is 3 to 7 days. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it, and we'll explain any added daily or weekly fee up front. Finish early? Call and we'll arrange an early pickup.

What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring, furniture and household junk, yard waste, branches and brush, roofing shingles and small non-hazardous appliances, with concrete and dirt usually in a 10- or 15-yard container. What doesn't go in: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, tires, batteries, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, and fridges, AC units and other appliances with refrigerants — that's our own list. Michigan's landfill ban list backs much of it up: used oil, lead-acid batteries, bulk liquid waste and asbestos waste (unless the landfill meets the federal asbestos rule) may not go to a landfill, and neither may more than a de minimis amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste (MCL 324.11514). So load yard waste on its own: a yard-waste container takes no household trash mixed in. If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Michigan guide covers the rest. Household hazardous leftovers go to Calhoun County's yearly household hazardous waste collection — 2026's was on 14 September at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds in Marshall. It's for County residents only and takes no trash, tires, yard waste, construction or demolition waste, appliances or business waste; Calhoun County Recycling and Solid Waste is on 269-969-6395.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Springfield

Who may haul: “No person shall engage in the business of collection, transportation or disposal of refuse in the city without first obtaining a license therefor as provided in this division. All persons, other than persons disposing of such persons' own refuse, shall obtain a license” (§ 36-137, Ord. No. 1985-4). Applications go in writing to the City Clerk's office, listing the vehicles and where they're parked overnight (§ 36-138), and the licence year runs from May 1 to April 30 (§ 36-141). The residential contract is exclusive — “The contractor shall be the only person allowed to provide residential refuse collection and disposal services within the city” (§ 36-136) — while commercial refuse, which includes construction waste (§ 36-15), is the owner's to arrange with a City-licensed person (§ 36-33). City Hall is at 601 Avenue A, (269) 965-2354. We're licensed & insured.

Construction sites: “All construction and demolition sites shall require adequate numbers of receptacles, bulk containers or detachable containers … All loose refuse shall be containerized by the end of each day” (§ 36-41), and construction waste is removed “within 30 days after the completion of such construction work … to approved disposal areas” (§ 36-32).

Haulers' vehicles: covers are kept secured; no vehicle sits in a residential area longer than needed to collect unless it's parked at least 500 feet from homes; refuse is collected from homes only between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. (§ 36-145); and each vehicle shows the licensee's name, phone and vehicle number in letters at least four inches high (§ 36-146).

In the street: we found no street or right-of-way permit for a dumpster — the City's streets article deals with curb cuts and driveways, which need Public Works approval (§ 40-12). Where signs are posted, no dump truck or similar vehicle may operate or park, the signs reading “Semis, heavy trucks, and heavy machinery prohibited, except local deliveries” (§ 46-31), and “No person shall park any tractor-trailer or trailer overnight on any street, alley, highway or other public place in the city” (§ 46-32). Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as we know where the container goes and the spot is clear of vehicles and obstacles — mark it with cones or tape if you won't be there. Leave about 60 feet of clear approach for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance, free of wires and branches, on flat, solid ground such as a driveway or pavement. Ask about boards for driveway protection.

State and local licences: EGLE says Michigan's solid waste rules don't require a licence, permit or registration from EGLE to haul solid waste, but some areas require a local licence or have their own operating rules — which is why the local rules on this page matter.

State highways: Michigan requires an MDOT permit for any use of state highway right-of-way other than normal travel, and cities and villages can require their own permits on their streets (MCL 247.322). We keep containers off state trunkline right-of-way — I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 and BL I-94 among them — and place them on private property beside those roads.

Covered loads: Michigan law bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so its contents can't drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that isn't completely enclosed must be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720). Keep debris below the top rim — an overfilled container may not be legal or safe to haul.

Remodel or tear-down: EGLE's Air Quality Division runs the federal asbestos NESHAP program in Michigan. Its fact sheet says residential dwellings of four units or less under private control or ownership aren't subject to the NESHAP, but regulated demolition — even of a facility with no asbestos — needs notice at least ten working days before work starts, filed through EGLE's MiEnviro portal. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Springfield

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — the rules follow the town the property is in — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the most cost-effective size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that can cover delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town restricts who may haul or wants a permit, we check its rules before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep everything below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and oils, fuel, liquids and hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or message us when it is full or the job is done and we arrange prompt pickup. We work with local disposal and recycling facilities whenever possible, and materials such as metal, concrete and certain yard waste may be separated for recycling.
