Roll-off dumpster rental in Vicksburg

Approx. 34 road miles west-southwest of the yard, around 48 minutes.

Vicksburg is approx. 34 road miles west-southwest of the yard, around 48 minutes — our longest run. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early in the day for the best chance of same-day. Vicksburg is a village of 3,706 at the 2020 Census, in Kalamazoo County.

Vicksburg's code says no one may be in the business of collecting residential garbage in the village without a hauler licence (§ 389-18), and licences expire on December 31 each year (§ 389-20B). The licence is tied to residential garbage, and the code doesn't say how it treats a roll-off; its refuse-bin rules leave roll-off containers out (§ 389-1). We found no exclusive trash contract. Big trucks have their own map here: vehicles over 2½ tons keep to a handful of named streets, except to reach a load or unload (§ 445-4).

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Vicksburg

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Hauler licence — collecting residential garbage in the village takes a Village hauler licence (§ 389-18), expiring each December 31 (§ 389-20B).
  • Roll-offs aren't refuse bins — the code's refuse-bin definition leaves out roll-off containers (§ 389-1).
  • Large-vehicle streets — vehicles over 2½ tons use East Prairie, Highway Street (Silver Street, S 24th Street), Kalamazoo Avenue and North Richardson (§§ 445-2, 445-4(A)).
  • Shortest route to the job — they may use other streets to load or unload, by the shortest and nearest route (§ 445-4(B)).
  • Clean-up is drop-off only — the Village's resident clean-up has been drop-off only since 2020 and turned away construction debris and building materials.
  • Street rules — we found no street-obstruction or dumpster permit in the Village's streets chapter.

What comes out of Vicksburg properties

Vicksburg's resident clean-up has been drop-off only since 2020, and it turned away construction debris, building materials and fencing, along with major building materials from commercial projects. A remodel, a roof or a fence tear-out is container work. Small clean-outs, garage projects and general household debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and demolition, construction and large-scale projects a 40 (about 12). Concrete and dirt usually go in a 10 or a 15 only — heavy materials have weight limits for safe transport, and tile, plaster, shingles and wet yard waste get heavy quickly. Michigan's solid waste law counts “demolished building materials” as rubbish (MCL 324.11505(9)), and household waste doesn't include construction and demolition waste (MCL 324.11504(3)) — remodel debris is container work, not cart work. The standard rental is 3 to 7 days. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it, and we'll explain any added daily or weekly fee up front. Finish early? Call and we'll arrange an early pickup.

What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring, furniture and household junk, yard waste, branches and brush, roofing shingles and small non-hazardous appliances, with concrete and dirt usually in a 10- or 15-yard container. What doesn't go in: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, tires, batteries, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, and fridges, AC units and other appliances with refrigerants — that's our own list. Michigan's landfill ban list backs much of it up: used oil, lead-acid batteries, bulk liquid waste and asbestos waste (unless the landfill meets the federal asbestos rule) may not go to a landfill, and neither may more than a de minimis amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste (MCL 324.11514). So load yard waste on its own: a yard-waste container takes no household trash mixed in. If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Michigan guide covers the rest. Household hazardous leftovers go to the Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center, 1301 Lamont Ave in Kalamazoo, which serves County residents and participating communities, with eligible small businesses by appointment — call 269-373-5211 for hours and what it takes.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Vicksburg

Who may haul: Vicksburg's code says no person may engage in the business of collecting residential garbage within the village without first getting a hauler licence (§ 389-18), and defines a hauler as anyone in the business of collecting residential garbage generated there (§ 389-8). Licences expire on December 31 (§ 389-20B) and can't be transferred (§ 389-24), haulers carry minimum liability insurance (§ 389-15), and if the Village names Kalamazoo County as its licensing agent, one County application fee can cover several municipalities (§ 389-20A). We found no exclusive contract — the Village keeps the option of municipal crews or private contractors (§ 389-10) — and the Village site doesn't say who collects household trash. The code text comes from the Village's online code host as a summary, so it's paraphrased here. Village Office: 126 N Kalamazoo Ave, 269-649-1919.

Trucks: a large vehicle — one carrying property with a weighted capacity over 2½ tons (§ 445-2) — may be driven or parked in the village only on East Prairie (N Richardson to Kalamazoo Ave), Highway Street (Kalamazoo Ave to S Richardson, also known as Silver Street and South 24th Street, then south on S Richardson to the village limits), Kalamazoo Avenue (E Prairie to Highway St) and North Richardson (village limits to E Prairie); it may use any street to load or unload by the shortest and nearest route, going no farther off those streets than it has to (§ 445-4).

In the street: the Village's streets chapter covers curb lawns, sidewalk permits and downtown sidewalk use, and we found no street-obstruction or dumpster permit in its section titles; a winter and snow-emergency parking ban exists (§ 445-31), and we didn't read its text. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as we know where the container goes and the spot is clear of vehicles and obstacles — mark it with cones or tape if you won't be there. Leave about 60 feet of clear approach for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance, free of wires and branches, on flat, solid ground such as a driveway or pavement. Ask about boards for driveway protection.

Across the county line: EGLE's hauler guidance says waste taken out of the Michigan county where it was generated, into another county for handling, must be allowed under both counties' solid waste management plans.

State and local licences: EGLE says Michigan's solid waste rules don't require a licence, permit or registration from EGLE to haul solid waste, but some areas require a local licence or have their own operating rules — which is why the local rules on this page matter.

State highways: Michigan requires an MDOT permit for any use of state highway right-of-way other than normal travel, and cities and villages can require their own permits on their streets (MCL 247.322). We keep containers off state trunkline right-of-way — I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 and BL I-94 among them — and place them on private property beside those roads.

Covered loads: Michigan law bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so its contents can't drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that isn't completely enclosed must be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720). Keep debris below the top rim — an overfilled container may not be legal or safe to haul.

Remodel or tear-down: EGLE's Air Quality Division runs the federal asbestos NESHAP program in Michigan. Its fact sheet says residential dwellings of four units or less under private control or ownership aren't subject to the NESHAP, but regulated demolition — even of a facility with no asbestos — needs notice at least ten working days before work starts, filed through EGLE's MiEnviro portal. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Vicksburg

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — the rules follow the town the property is in — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the most cost-effective size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that can cover delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town restricts who may haul or wants a permit, we check its rules before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep everything below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and oils, fuel, liquids and hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or message us when it is full or the job is done and we arrange prompt pickup. We work with local disposal and recycling facilities whenever possible, and materials such as metal, concrete and certain yard waste may be separated for recycling.
