Roll-off dumpster rental in Climax

Approx. 14 road miles west-southwest of the yard, around 20 minutes.

Climax is approx. 14 road miles west-southwest of the yard, around 20 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked the Village's rules for the job. Climax is a village of 712 at the 2020 Census, in Kalamazoo County, with regular trash pickup on Thursdays.

Climax's solid waste chapter (Ord. No. 42, 2006) has residential refuse handled by the contractor under contract to the Village, and says no one other than that contractor may collect refuse accumulated in the village, carry it over village streets or dispose of it, except as the chapter provides (§ 26-20). The same chapter has the owner or contractor on a building job take construction waste to a state-approved disposal area, and has commercial and industrial premises contract with a solid waste hauler (§ 26-23(a)) — which appears to leave construction and commercial waste open. The Village says it is updating and codifying its ordinances, so we check the Village's rules before booking.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Climax

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Village contractor — only the Village's contractor may collect, convey or dispose of refuse accumulated in the village, except as the chapter provides (§ 26-20), under an exclusive contract for residential refuse (§ 26-33).
  • Construction waste — the owner, occupant or contractor removes it within 30 days after the job to a state-approved disposal area (§ 26-23(a)).
  • Commercial premises — commercial and industrial premises contract with a solid waste hauler for their refuse (§ 26-23(a)).
  • Collection hours at homes — refuse is collected from residential premises only between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. (§ 26-34(c)(9)).
  • Main and Maple Streets — no parking there between 2:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. (§ 32-2(c)).
  • Code being updated — the Village warns its posted ordinances may not be current while it updates and codifies them.

What comes out of Climax properties

In Climax the line between household refuse and construction waste matters. The code defines construction waste as refuse from building construction, alteration, demolition or repair, and dirt from excavation (§ 26-19), and has it taken within 30 days after the job to a state-approved disposal area (§ 26-23(a)). A household clean-out at a home is the part we check most carefully with the Village. Small clean-outs, garage projects and general household debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and demolition, construction and large-scale projects a 40 (about 12). Concrete and dirt usually go in a 10 or a 15 only — heavy materials have weight limits for safe transport, and tile, plaster, shingles and wet yard waste get heavy quickly. The standard rental is 3 to 7 days. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it, and we'll explain any added daily or weekly fee up front. Finish early? Call and we'll arrange an early pickup.

What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring, furniture and household junk, yard waste, branches and brush, roofing shingles and small non-hazardous appliances, with concrete and dirt usually in a 10- or 15-yard container. What doesn't go in: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, tires, batteries, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, and fridges, AC units and other appliances with refrigerants — that's our own list. Michigan's landfill ban list backs much of it up: used oil, lead-acid batteries, bulk liquid waste and asbestos waste (unless the landfill meets the federal asbestos rule) may not go to a landfill, and neither may more than a de minimis amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste (MCL 324.11514). So load yard waste on its own: a yard-waste container takes no household trash mixed in. If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Michigan guide covers the rest. Household hazardous leftovers go to the Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center, 1301 Lamont Ave in Kalamazoo, which serves County residents and participating communities, with eligible small businesses by appointment — call 269-373-5211 for hours and what it takes. Kalamazoo County lists Climax Township residents as outside its free HHW program; whether that takes in the village wasn't stated, so call the Center first.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Climax

Who may haul — we check first: Climax's Chapter 26 (Ord. No. 42, 18 April 2006) has all qualified residential refuse disposed of by the Village's contractor, says no person other than the contractor shall collect, convey over village streets and alleys, or dispose of refuse accumulated in the village except as the chapter provides, and has every residential owner subscribe to the service (§ 26-20). The Council may give a private party an exclusive contract for residential refuse (§ 26-33). The chapter also has whoever is responsible for construction work remove the surplus materials and construction waste within 30 days after completion, to a state-approved disposal area, and has commercial establishments and industrial plants contract with a solid waste hauler (§ 26-23(a)); collectors bringing refuse from outside the village may carry it over village streets if they follow the chapter's transport rules (§ 26-35). The code chapters are posted as scans, so this is a summary, not a quotation. We check the Village's rules before booking a container in Climax — Village Hall is at 114 E Maple St, 269-746-4174. We're licensed & insured.

In the street: Climax's streets chapter covers sidewalks and shade trees, and we found no street-obstruction or dumpster permit in it; owners keep their sidewalks free of obstructions and encroachments (§ 30-24). There's no parking on Main and Maple Streets between 2:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. (§ 32-2(c)). Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as we know where the container goes and the spot is clear of vehicles and obstacles — mark it with cones or tape if you won't be there. Leave about 60 feet of clear approach for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance, free of wires and branches, on flat, solid ground such as a driveway or pavement. Ask about boards for driveway protection.

Across the county line: EGLE's hauler guidance says waste taken out of the Michigan county where it was generated, into another county for handling, must be allowed under both counties' solid waste management plans.

State and local licences: EGLE says Michigan's solid waste rules don't require a licence, permit or registration from EGLE to haul solid waste, but some areas require a local licence or have their own operating rules — which is why the local rules on this page matter.

State highways: Michigan requires an MDOT permit for any use of state highway right-of-way other than normal travel, and cities and villages can require their own permits on their streets (MCL 247.322). We keep containers off state trunkline right-of-way — I-94, I-194, M-66, M-96, M-37, M-89, M-227 and BL I-94 among them — and place them on private property beside those roads.

Covered loads: Michigan law bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so its contents can't drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that isn't completely enclosed must be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720). Keep debris below the top rim — an overfilled container may not be legal or safe to haul.

Remodel or tear-down: EGLE's Air Quality Division runs the federal asbestos NESHAP program in Michigan. Its fact sheet says residential dwellings of four units or less under private control or ownership aren't subject to the NESHAP, but regulated demolition — even of a facility with no asbestos — needs notice at least ten working days before work starts, filed through EGLE's MiEnviro portal. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Climax

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — the rules follow the town the property is in — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the most cost-effective size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that can cover delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town restricts who may haul or wants a permit, we check its rules before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep everything below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and oils, fuel, liquids and hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or message us when it is full or the job is done and we arrange prompt pickup. We work with local disposal and recycling facilities whenever possible, and materials such as metal, concrete and certain yard waste may be separated for recycling.

Dumpster rental in Climax — common questions

Not covered here? Call (269) 292-6313 and ask.

Can I get a roll-off in Climax?

Yes. We check the Village's rules before booking a container in Climax, because the Village's code says no one other than its contractor may collect refuse accumulated in the village, except as its solid waste chapter provides (§ 26-20). Call (269) 292-6313 with the address and the job.

Can a contractor's construction debris go in a roll-off in Climax?

Climax's code has the owner or contractor take construction waste to a state-approved disposal area within 30 days after the job (§ 26-23(a)), which appears to leave construction waste outside the contractor's exclusive. We still check the Village's rules before booking.

Can a dumpster go on a Climax street?

We found no street or dumpster permit in Climax's code, and sidewalks must be kept free of obstructions (§ 30-24), so we place it on your driveway or lot.

How far is Climax from your yard?

Approx. 14 road miles west-southwest, around 20 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked the Village's rules.
